Evan Guthrie Law Firm Moderates Color of JusticeEvent Involving High School Students In Columbia, SC

Online, October 21, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina helped to moderate the Color of Justice program in Columbia, SC on Saturday April 27th 2013. The Color of Justice event is meant to expose middle and high school students in South Carolina to the legal profession and help them consider a career in law. The event features panel discussions by young lawyers, judges, law students, and law school professors and admissions officers. The Columbia event was hosted by Nexsen Pruit and was held in their conference rooms in their Columbia office. Students from throughout the Columbia, SC area were present and the event and were treated to breakfast and lunch as part of the event. The lawyer panel explained the path from middle and high school through college and law school and then through the bar exam and what life is like as a practicing lawyer. The judge panel explained how one becomes a judge and what a typical day is like as a judge and some of the challenges and rewards associated with the job. The law school panel featured a law school professor that explained what law school is like, what a typical class is like, and what a professor expects from their students in and outside of class. The law admission panel explained the realistic challenges and expectations that may stand in the way to attending law school and what it takes to succeed to overcome those obstacles in a step by step matter. The students enjoyed each panel and took the opportunity to ask questions they had from each of the speakers. After the different panel discussions the students were divided into small groups for lunch and those speakers that stayed and were joined by additional young lawyers to interact with the students in a more relaxed setting. This allowed the students to ask even more questions and get more individual attention.

The event was a success as there was a great number of participants and volunteers. This was the fourth Color of Justice event that attorney Evan Guthrie was able to be a part of and volunteer for. Mr. Guthrie was joined at the event by his law clerk, Kimaya Brown, whom made the trip to Columbia to assist with the event. Attorney Guthrie was happy to be a part of such an important event and looks forward to helping with many events in the future.
