Wendover, UT (I-Newswire) August 21, 2011 - At the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedweek 2011 the SCTA record for modified sports car fuel 'C' engine previously held by an Enzo Ferrari was beaten by a 1971 Triumph. The 2010 record of 237.87 MPH was soundly beaten with a new 2 run average of 305.59 MPH. This is the first modified sports car to set a record over 300MPH!

This marked the return of Keith G. Copeland who, in a very serious crash at the 2008 event, destroyed his previous race car. The new car competed last year at its' debut, but still had to work out a few bugs. The car upped the previous record last year but was slightly bested by the Enzo on the last run of the World of Speed event last October.

Once it was determined Keith would be able to drive again it did not leave much time to build a new race car. It was decided to build a new car from scratch rather than try to rebuild the wrecked car. The new car was fabricated by Mark Hanson of StrangeFab Metalcrafts in less than 9 months. This is a specialized car designed to compete in land speed racing. Every thing is custom built for this purpose. After a couple of shake down runs at Speedweek 2010, the team returned to Bonneville for the World Finals event. The car made a nice pass of 268 MPH to qualify for a record but unfortunately during that run the engine was damaged so the return run wasn't as fast as hoped. Per SCTA rules, two runs are combined to make an average speed that determines the record. Even limping down the course on the return run, the car managed an impressive average of 231.8 MPH. This unfortunately that left the door open for the Enzo and they managed to beat the record the following morning. The new record for this class is very fast, we shall see if they can battle back and achieve the speeds required to better the record.
