Endurance Races Join Forces

Abu Dhabi (I-Newswire) August 16, 2011 - The annual 12 hour Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) and the new Abu Dhabi-based Gulf 12 Hours are set to be ‘team mates’ following the announcement of a new commercial link up between the events.

The affiliation will see both races support each other by sharing commercial contacts and opportunities, as well as work together to develop rules that allow teams to easily participate in both events.

The Gulf 12 Hours aims to act as a bridge between European to Asian motorsport; reinforcing the race's goal of attracting a wider range of teams and drivers to compete in the GCC region.

The MMER is the biggest endurance race in Asia and held at the Sepang International Circuit; this year taking place between September 15th and 17th. It has been an instant hit with international teams and drivers from world renowned endurance events including the Le Mans 24 Hours, Nuerburgring 24 Hours and Dubai 24 Hours.

‘This landmark collaboration takes us a step closer in realising a union of calendars, which will ensure commercial viability for the teams and series’ organisers throughout the world. Note to the editor

The Gulf 12 Hours is a brand new endurance race set to take place this winter at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi. The event is open to cars from GT2, GT3, GT4, one make series like the Ferrari Challenge, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Maserati Trofeo, Porsche Carrera Cup and Ferrari Challenge, CN2 Sports Cars and a limited number of touring cars.

Since its launch in August 2011, more than 40 teams from 13 countries have registered their interest in taking part in the race.
