Dustcheck Duo To Step Down After 37 Years

HUSBAND and wife team Ed and Di Spires are stepping down as joint managing directors of Dustcheck, one of the UK's leading dust control and air filtration companies.

The couple, who co-founded the business in North Staffordshire 37 years ago, will move aside on July 1st to make way for current Technical Director Nigel Hubbard.

Although they will continue to be involved in helping steer the future direction of Dustcheck, they believe the time is right to allow a new generation to continue the business's strategic development.

Said Ed: "After long consideration Di and I decided it was time to ease back and allow the tremendous talent that has flourished here to take the business forward.

"Nigel has been a significant asset to the company and I would like to publicly congratulate him on his new position.

"He has a wealth of experience and knowledge within the industry and we are confident that with his leadership qualities he will guide the company on in its next phase of growth."

Mr Hubbard joined the company in 2010 and aims to make the transition as smooth as possible for Dustcheck's extensive customer base.

He said: "This is going to be a hard act to follow, but we are well prepared and ready for the challenge.

"Ed and Di have built the company into what it is today. The same passion for the company still exists, along with the desire to see Dustcheck flourish whilst remaining true to its culture and values.

"Dustcheck is the industry's best-kept secret and I can understand why. It is refreshing to find a company that has the customer at the focus of its business and a desire to provide a solution. Now is the time to open up this secret to the industry."

Dustcheck, based on the Oldfields Business Park in Fenton, have delivered dust control systems, industrial air filtration and extraction systems to the world's largest manufacturing companies for over 30 years.

They are the sole UK and Ireland distributor of industrial air filtration products for Mahle, a global development partner for the automotive and engine industry.

Ed and Di Spires formed Dustcheck in April 1978 with three other directors from a Black Country sheet metal company.

Although the initial aim was to supply existing dust control systems, Ed's vision was for the company to produce its own innovative product range.

A connection forged with Mahle at an industry exhibition in the early 1980s allowed Dustcheck to develop a range of dust filters using cartridge filter elements - an innovative approach at that time.

Ten years after its formation Ed and Di Spires acquired total control of the company and established joint ownership.

Since then, Dustcheck has continued to pioneer major advances in filtration systems, initially working with Mahle developing the cartridge filter range.

These filters have gone from being the 'new' product to the accepted norm, offering compact size and high efficiencies. Dustcheck maintains its lead in this technology which has many other advantages for the user.

Dustcheck also produces bag filters and next month will launch a new range of tubular sock filters, maintaining its reputation for innovation and cost-saving technology.

In retirement, Di intends to spend more time with her four grandchildren in Newquay, Cornwall and pursuing her interests of keeping fit, gardening and travel.

Ed says he is looking forward to indulging his passion for classic cars and motor bikes, sailing his Drascombe Dabber, biking and keeping fit.
