TAMPA - May 25, 2010 - Dr. James (Jim) Norman of the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, FL is being recognized as a Patients' Choice physician for second year running. Out of 720,000 active physicians, he represents one of the 5 percent who receive this honor nationwide.

Each year more than 400,000 patients provide online feedback about their physician experiences, rating various components of their visit including bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of the staff, as well as overall opinions. Physicians who continually receive uniformly rave reviews across the board from patients receive the Patients' Choice designation.

"We would like to congratulate Dr Norman on perhaps the most important recognition a doctor can receive, the recognition of their patients with the Patients' Choice Award" said Taylor Green of American Registry and Vitals.com.

"This award is a terrific reflection on the dedicated and talented team we have built both at the hospital and in our office" said Dr. Norman. "Limiting our practice only to parathyroid disease has allowed us to anticipate and understand our patient's needs so that they have a great overall experience from their first phone call until they are cured and on their way back home".

A variety of internet databases such as Vitals.com, Health.com, and Managed Care websites allow for online patient feedback which is then tabulated by MDx Medical Inc. The reviews are unsolicited. Additional information available on the various websites include a profile of the physician and his or her credentials, which includes board certification, number of publications, hospital affiliations and reputations, as well as the prestige of the medical program in which the physician was trained. This information allows patients and insurers to assess the physician when choosing whom to see for care.

James Norman, MD, FACS, FACE, is recognized as one of world's foremost experts on parathyroid disease and is the founder of the Norman Parathyroid Center. Dr. Norman is a board certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE). He is recognized as the inventor of minimally invasive radioguided parathyroid surgery in the mid 1990s, and is credited with dramatically changing the way parathyroid surgery is performed.
