Dr. Gordon T. Austin Praises Companies for Supporting U.S. Soldiers
Walgreens affirmed its continuing support for National Guard and Reserve members who have trouble readjusting to civilian life. US Navy veteran, Dr. Gordon T. Austin encourages consumers and companies to learn from the commitment set forth.
Online, July 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Although our nation's defense has spent many years proving their worth in the recent years of extended wartime, many are facing trouble readjusting to civilian life upon their return. Many of the issues that stem from this readjustment concern employment. Those who are no longer active must reenter the work force with a new pay system, lapse in benefits and an entirely different management style. However, according to a recent article from the Illinois National Guard, Walgreens, the nationally-recognized pharmacy, is continuing its tradition of supporting US troops and their adjustment by signing an official Statement of Support in mid-June. Dr. Gordon T. Austin is a US Navy veteran and current Vice President (Naval Services) of the Reserve Officers Association (ROA) who has supported many efforts to support veterans and soldiers. He comments that the efforts set forth by the private sector, such as Walgreens, are highly commendable and should be appreciated by all American citizens.
The Statement of Support, signed on behalf of Walgreens and all of its nationwide employees, was in response the company's comprehensive plan to address employment initiatives of service members. In part of this plan the company is working alongside the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and many other veteran organizations to help raise awareness about the need for helping US service members. Dr. Gordon T. Austin stresses the importance of these partnerships and states, "It is critical that outstanding companies like Walgreens act as good citizens working with organizations like ESGR and ROA, to hire and transition military talent back into the private sector work force."
Walgreens is particularly concerned with maintaining employment among military members and inviting them into their secure employment programs. As part of the initiative, Walgreens is extending its employment outreach to the veteran community through a network of online resources. In addition, James Rebholz, ESGR Chief of Employer Outreach, commended the organization for, "[providing] 'Above and Beyond' support to complement military coverage, such as providing pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extending health care benefits while their employees are mobilized."
Dr. Gordon T. Austin is proud of Walgreens, especially in that its efforts will prove to have long-term benefits not only for military members, but also their families. He concludes, "All pharmacy patrons should applaud Walgreens and support them in this effort to do the right thing for our American heroes."
