A breast lift, called a “Mastoplexy,” involves no implants but most assuredly can increase a patient’s self-confidence despite no major changes in her appearance. It is a simple surgical procedure, most often performed on an out-patient basis under general anesthesia. Most commonly the mastoplexy surgery only lasts between an hour-and-half to three hours. If you are required or prefer to have the procedure in the hospital, plan for a day or two stay-over. Once the surgery has been performed, a patient can expect to experience mild discomfort and swelling for a few days, while wearing a surgical bra over gauze for those first few days. After a few short days, the patient should remove the surgical bra carefully and move on to a soft, support bra to be worn constantly for approximately four weeks. Although, the stitches will be removed at Dr. Berzin's office in approximately two weeks following surgery. For the complete recovery period of four weeks, the patient cannot lift anything above her head.

Prime candidates for mastoplexy surgery include women who have breast fed and experience thinning of the breast. Although Dr. Berzin does prefer and suggest that women who plan to have additional children, wait to have the procedure, he does report that mastoplexy does not have an effect on breast feeding. Others who qualify for a breast lift are those with sagging breasts due to loss of weight or oncoming age, etc. One important thing to to keep in mind is that the smaller the breast, the better the breast lift. In other words, gravity works, ie, a woman with small, light breasts will enjoy the perkiness resulting from a breast lift much longer than a woman with larger, heavier breasts.
