Recently a new project was announced which will study babies and how they are progressing with communicating through speech.

Coventry (I-Newswire) February 4, 2013 - Female First, a website for women and mothers, recently reported a new project which will be undertaking crucial research into the study of baby communication development, particularly how fast or slow babies are learning to communicate with adults. Other research undertaken into this area has been useless when used in the UK, as the research was developed with American English speaking children, who obviously adopt different words and have varying accents, none of which are similar to those found in England.

The research project will take two to two and a half years to complete, but will yield incomparable results for UK children. Currently scientists are encouraging parents from areas around the UK, including Scotland and Ireland, with babies under eighteen months to join the project and have their children participate. The advantage of studying children with dialects from around the UK will be a better national average with which to compare a baby’s communication abilities, one which takes into account the area of the UK they’re from.
