Schiller, MD, FACS, of Olympia Medical Center in Los Angeles, has renewed his participation with the Medical Education Speakers Network (MESN), an independent speaker's bureau that provides medical education programs and lectures throughout the United States. MESN has no commercial or pharmaceutical affiliations and has been providing this service for nearly 2 decades. MESN also plays a valuable role in the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals throughout the United States.
Dr. Schiller lectures and gives presentations about ileostomy Options and Continent Diversions. He is a surgical pioneer in the BCIR (Barnett Continent Intestinal Reservoir), an option that provides continence to patients who would otherwise have a conventional ileostomy which requires wearing an external pouch at all times to collect digestive waste. The patients are usually young (teens to 40s), and suffer from Ulcerative Colitis or Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. These medical conditions are cured by complete removal of the large intestine and rectum.
Dr. Schiller has been performing continent ileostomy surgery (Barnett type of Kock Pouch (or BCIR), revisions of malfunctioning Kock and Barnett pouches, and conversions of failed ileo-anal J Pouches to the BCIR) since 1989. Over all of these years, one constant exists - the personal commitment and dedication of Dr. Schiller to his patients.
