Dome9 Security Adds Protection for CloudFlare Customers' Web Servers

Dome9's cloud server security service delivers back-end web server protection complementing CloudFlare's front-end website security

Dome9 Security™, the leading provider of cloud server security management service for public and private clouds, as well as for dedicated and Virtual Private Servers (VPS), today at HostingCon 2011 announced a new partnership with CloudFlare to protect customers' websites and their Web servers from attack and unauthorized access. This powerful combination delivers first-of-its-kind, automated security to protect both the server and its Web traffic.

The partnership complements each service and provides security and performance for any site online. Dome9 Security is the only cloud server security service provider delivering automated cloud security management-as-a-service for public and private clouds, as well as for dedicated and Virtual Private Servers (VPS). CloudFlare, Inc., protects and accelerates any website online. With the joint offering, customers' Web servers are protected on both the front- and back-end with secure access for the root server and the traffic it delivers. Dome9 Security is exhibiting in Booth No. 236 at HostingCon 2011 in San Diego this week.

The Dome9 cloud and hosted security service will be available to CloudFlare customers through the CloudFlare Apps marketplace at the end of August. Customers can sign-up and provision Dome9 in minutes to secure access to their Web servers, both hosted and cloud-based, with centralized billing through CloudFlare.

"Dome9 has introduced the ability to dynamically close ports and protect servers in virtual and cloud environments, and with Dome9 we are pleased to offer additional security options to our customers," said Matthew Prince, Co-founder and CEO of CloudFlare.

"CloudFlare has grown to more than 10 billion page views a month and that number is rising," said Zohar Alon, Co-founder and CEO. "That is significant Web traffic delivered from a lot of Web servers, the majority of which have open ports such as SSH for administrators to connect to and manage. Dome9 is uniquely able to secure access and automate security management for those servers, ensuring administrative server ports are closed and the servers are secured."

CloudFlare is provisioned as a service through a simple change to a website's domain settings. CloudFlare works on any platform, regardless of the underlying infrastructure. It does not require any hardware, software, or changes to existing code. Websites keep their existing hosting provider and infrastructure stack. Set-up typically takes less than 5 minutes. Once on the CloudFlare network, sites see an average 30 percent improvement in page load times, a 60 percent decrease in bandwidth usage, and a 65 percent decrease in load on their server.

Dome9 is a first-of-its-kind service that dynamically manages cloud server security across infrastructure platforms, including Amazon's EC2, RackSpace, GoGrid, and other service providers. Leveraging either its light-weight agent or hosting providers' security APIs, Dome9 dynamically configures firewall access ensuring all administrative ports are closed by default, or opened only when, for whom, and for as long as is required to access the cloud server. Dome9 works for virtual machines in private or public clouds, as well as for dedicated servers, supporting Linux and Windows servers running all virtualization technologies (including VMware, Citrix XEN, KVM, Parallels & Microsoft's Hyper-V).
