Domain Name AY.com Up For Auction: Will It Get Close To What FB.com Sold For?

AY.com is up for auction on Flippa.com with No Reserve bid, and a 'Buy It Now' price of $1,999,999.

Fort Myers, Florida (I-Newswire) January 19, 2011 - 2-letter (LL.com) domain names rarely ever go up for sale, let alone on auction websites with 'No Reserve' bid. However, the domain name, 'AY.com' was recently put up for auction (https://flippa.com/auctions/120091/AY-com---Rare-Premium-2-Letter-Pronounceable-LL-com-Domain-Name) with a minimum bid of only $79,999, no reserve, and a 'buy it now' price of $1,999,999.

This comes after a recent sale of the FB.com domain name to Facebook for $8.5 million. While there are only 676 LL.com domain names in existence, there seem to be very few that ever go up for public sale. Historic 2-letter dot.com domain names have sold for prices ranging from $XXX,XXX to the latest $8.5 million that FB.com fetched only months ago.

Other sales include:
YP.com, which sold for $3,850,000 in November of 2008 as well as "LI.com which sold for $500,000.

When a domain name this rare goes up for auction, it is almost impossible to guess what it will sell for. If the right company or person were to come along, it could be valued in the multi-million-dollar range. Domain appraisers have a difficult time pricing domains this rare as well.

One of the Domain name's owners, Eddie Krassenstein doesn't even know how much to expect from the sale. "I honestly have no clue what it will sell for. I'm hoping it gets a ton, but will let the market decide for itself what it is worth," explained Eddie.

Eddie currently has the domain name listed with a 'buy it now' of $1,999,999, but he may consider removing it if a bidding war were to heat up.

"I have had many people tell me that putting a 'buy it now' of only $2 million may end up being a mistake if multiple large corporations become interested. I may consider changing or removing the 'buy it now', but for now I am leaving it," said Eddie.
