DH11 LON Number Plate Sells For £80,000 At The DVLA Auction

Staffordshire, (I-Newswire) February 12, 2012 - Staffordshire, UK. At the first DVLA personalised number plate auction of the year, held at the Stratford Manor Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon one unassuming number plate turned out to be one of the stars of the show.

To look at it at first, the number plate DH11 LON may not seem to be anything exciting, but in the Asian community, Dhiilon is a widely used surname. Even so, nobody could have predicted the hammer going down on this sale at £80,000!

According to Jody Davies, who is the DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Events Manager, she said; “What a way to start our 2012 programme? We were hopeful DH11 LON would create some interest, but no one predicted it would fetch such a high figure. We are delighted, of course, but a little stunned.”

But it was not all plain sailing for this particular number plates auction as it started off with a reserve of £2,000 and as the hammer was almost about to fall at £50,000! This was when suddenly a mystery buyer jumped into the action and the price just kept going up and up until £61,000 was reached. However, with charges the total price for DH11 LON was a staggering £80,000.

It just goes to show that these cherished number plate auctions are the place to be when certain number plates are being offered by the DVLA and there are still five more to go this year.
