Designer Pen Product Development Completed by Sourcing Spectrum

(I-Newswire) May 19, 2010 - The artwork pen designed by the designer is in the shape of a trumpet, with the base as the trumpet head and the pen body as the pipe. It is of the most complicated kind of pens that any manufacturer would take it as a technical advantage.

Sourcing Spectrum was provided with the original drawings of then pen but these drawing were intended to make the pen with only two die cast injection moulds. Sourcing Spectrum identified several experienced manufacturers for Zinc Alloy and Pewter Alloy and had in depth discussion around the implementation of the drawings.

Our engineer found that it was impossible and not cost effective to make the whole pen using Zinc alloy with two moulds. The pen has to be divided into components. We selected one of the manufacturers who was both experienced with pens and zinc alloys. Working with the manufacturer, we helped the client modify the drawings to be compatible with the manufacturing process. Then the pen comprised of 7 components made of zinc alloy and copper.

The development of all the moulds for these 7 components were very challenging, especially for the zinc alloy die casting moulds that are intended to present the patterns. It not only needed to be good looking on the patterns but also to be very precise so as to fit the other parts. It took several trial and error experiment to meet this strict requirements.

The whole lead time was threatened by the mould development and we had to mitigated this by partial shipment to quench the marketing thirst for this football work cup product.

The large order of this pens were successfully completed and shipped on April 25th and they were sold out of stock within 10 days back in the home market.
