The office is equipped with cutting edge imaging equipment, including a digital panoramic X-ray machine, an intraoral camera and digital intraoral X-ray sensors permitting superior diagnostic capability with far less radiation than traditional X-rays. The practice also forgoes traditional air driven handpieces in favour of electric handpieces that allow more precise preparation with much less noise and chatter. The net result is a quieter, safer and more comfortable experience for patients.
Uncompromised Infection Control Standards:
The Tappuni Dental office has been built from the ground up with infection control in mind. The interior design takes advantage of antimicrobial solid surfaces for counter tops and flooring. Cassettes are used to transport dental instruments, eliminating the risk of contamination during transfer. The sterilization centre contains a special Hydrim washer that removes all debris using vigorous hot water and an enzymatic cleaning solution. Unlike the traditional ultrasonic cleaner, the Hydrim uses a fresh load of water with every wash. Hospital-grade autoclaves are used to sterilize the dental instruments. In addition, all sterilizers are monitored at every cycle with mechanical, chemical and biological indicators that ensure that the proper conditions of temperature and time are met with every load. All surfaces in the operatory are cleaned prior to every patient with a hospital-grade tuberculocidal disinfectant. Personal and surface barriers are used throughout the office to ensure proper infection control.

About Dr. Tappuni:
Dr. Tappuni received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto in 2004. During her dental studies, she was awarded the James Branston Willmott Scholarship for highest academic achievement, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon award for high scholarship and the 3M Clinical Award for superior aptitude in restorative dentistry. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Dr. Tappuni spent two years as a resident in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) programme at the University of the Pacific, San Francisco. In the AEGD programme, Dr. Tappuni received advanced training in the treatment of patients with complex multi-disciplinary needs. She was awarded the Top Resident award in both her years at the programme. Dr. Tappuni worked in full practice in the San Francisco area for four years before returning to Thornhill.
