Dentist In Norwich Tells Of His Olympic Experience

Out of 600 of the UK's top dentists, only 28 were selected to work with the athletes at the London Olympics. A few months on, and one of them reflects on his experience.

Dr Bimesh Sawhney, a dentist in Norwich was chosen out of over 600 applicants to be on the London 2012 Olympic dental team.

For Dr Sawhney this was a dream come true. As an avid sports fan, he was thrilled to be one of the 28 dentists working in shifts to staff the dental suit at the £23 million Polyclinic in the Athlete's Village.
"My friends told me to apply for it because I love sport. What an amazing summer it was," Said Mr Sawhney.

As a keen sportsman the Norwich based Dentist thrived working among the world's top athletes.
A major part of his work was dealing with emergencies in sports such as boxing, martial arts and hockey.

"Having played hockey meant I had seen and treated a fair few things, such as my battered and bleeding friends, so I felt prepared going into the games."

It was an experience he will never forget, and one that has given him many useful contacts. So does this mean he will be looking to be part of the Olympic dental team in Rio 2016?

"We will see", replied Mr Sawhney, "I'm just proud to have been part of the London games. It was great for me, combining what I do with what I love. It was also great PR for my private dental surgery in Norwich"

Mr Sawhney, 31, has lived in Norwich for seven years. He has taught at the N&N University Hospital, as well as Ipswich Hospital. His surgery is Riverside Dental and he used to pay Hockey for the Norwich Dragons.
