Delivery of the World’s Largest WireEDM Machine

(I-Newswire) September 21, 2010 - An open day event hosted by Krüger, celebrated both the purchase of this latest machine, and also marked a 14 year relationship in which the company has used Schott Systeme’s ‘Pictures by PC’ CAD/CAM software for the programming of their milling and wire cutting machine tools.

With the help of Pictures by PC and some fairly unique machinery, Krüger has specialised in the cutting of automotive and aerospace components that have previously been made almost impossible to produce, due to both their size and material. A typical example of such machinery is their highly modified Mitsubishi FA30-V, which is able to wire cut hard materials such as stainless steel, up to a size of 2000x1600x980mm and a weight of 3000kg. The delivery of this latest FA50-S AdvanceV machine however, which is the largest of its kind in the world, now enables Küger to handle components with a weight of up to 4000kg. To optimise the complete manufacturing process, toolpaths are generated and tested from within their Pictures by PC CAD/CAM software, and these are sent straight to the machine tool. This process is one that has been refined over the last 14 years, and this long term relationship is continually progressing, with Schott Systeme now working on the next software generation to help optimise their wire cutting.

Just as Krüger Erodiertechnik has specialised in niche wireEDM technologies, the company is continuing this trend by also specialising in the machining of electrodes that require extreme tolerances combined with extra thin wall thicknesses. Their Pictures by PC software has again played a major role in making this possible. By combining the latest 5 axis simultaneous milling strategies with HSM techniques, Krüger has been able to produce efficient and precise toolpaths that can be left to run overnight on their various OPS and Deckel machine tools. Interestingly the company is not stopping there, and has just completed the 2D and 3D layouts and facility management for their old and new factory, using once again Pictures by PC CAD/CAM software.
