Data Center Operator Critical to End-to-End Performance Management Say Carrier Experts at Metanoia, Inc. Convened Roundtable

Mountain View, California (I-Newswire) September 26, 2012 - In a recent Roundtable, convened by Metanoia Inc., as part of the discourse on performance management leading up to an on-line panel July 17 (details http://bit.ly/LknqIs), experts from Tata Communications, TELUS, and Twitter discussed why the data center operator is critical today, what type of data center operator is vital, how one characterizes such an operator, and why such a DC operator is key in end-to-end performance management.

Ning So, Head of Network Architecture, Mobile Broadband Services at Tata, observed “The data center operator and data center networking play an increasingly important role in providing end-to-end service today. The multi-tenant, multi-service data center serves as the host platform for various users, using either compute or application hosting services. So, if we weret to paint the end-to-end picture, on one end is a user, either wireless or wireline, whose data goes through the LAN-WAN wireless or wireline, middle-mile network, and then into the data center to be serviced, making the data center network a core part of the end-to-end network.”

Dr. Vishal Sharma, Principal, Metanoia, Inc. expanded “A multi-tenant, multi-service data center is one where the compute and application-hosting resources serve as the host platform to a number of different users and applications, and any customer can virtually subscribe to any server. The customer in question could be an external customer, such as an enterprise, or, for an operator’s internal data centers, could be another department, such as the wireless- or VoIP department.”

Geoffrey Holan, Senior Network Architect at TELUS, added “As part of Telus’ internal network, our SIP servers and VoIP equipment are moving to the data center offering virtual services. The voice network has no dedicated equipment, and runs on hardware out of our data centers. Thus, end-to-end latency and jitter now extend all the way into our data center making user SLA’s dependent on its performance.”

These experts with those from OPNET, InfoVista, CTS Telecom, ADVA, Cisco, & Amartus, were discussing and debating key topics that were featured in an on-line international panel and ongoing dialog on “Smart Monitoring and Performance Management for Operational Efficiency and Reduced TCO” http://bit.ly/LknqIs
