Darshita Arora, FORE School Of Management Batch- 2012 – “At FORE School Of Management, You ‘Experience’ Management Skills Rather Than ‘Learning’ Them”

Darshita Arora’s career is divided into two parts – before FORE School of Management, and after FORE School of Management.

Delhi (I-Newswire) October 25, 2012 - Darshita Arora’s career is divided into two parts – before FORE School of Management, and after FORE School of Management. It never ceases to amaze her that two years can be so unbelievably life-changing.

“After my 2-year stint in Tata Consultancy Services, I knew that I could not continue in the technical field. I wanted to be a part of something more challenging and exciting; roles which involved decision-making and management… and that’s how PGDM happened.”

Today, as a Relationship Manager in the Business Banking division of HSBC, Darshita deals with corporate houses across all sectors.

“HSBC is undoubtedly one of the biggest brands in the banking industry. It is an international bank and therefore the way business is done here is quite different. We are not into mass banking like the other banks in India. With so many banks thriving in today’s world, it is a challenge to acquire customers, and even more challenging to retain them. Customers today are admirably aware of all the products and their pricing. Since the switching costs are negligible, it is a daily challenge to retain big-ticket corporate clients.”

Five months out of FORE School of Management and into the ‘World’s Local Bank’- HSBC, Darshita is loving every bit of it. ‘’For me, the best part about my job is that every day is different. There is no ‘typical’ day at work here. There is always a sense of excitement when the day begins because every day comes with a whole new set of experiences and learning. I love the excitement of being able to do new stuff everyday, the freedom to apply my own fresh ideas and not having to follow the paths treaded by others and the diversity of experience I get by interacting with people in all possible sectors and not just staying confined to one.’’

She feels that as a part of the FMG – Marketing 2010- 2012 Batch, she was prepared extensively by FORE School of Management for all the challenges coming her way.

“My advice to FOREians is ‘do not confine yourselves to text books and course material. Keep an open mind and ‘imbibe’ management skills rather than trying to ‘memorise’ them. In managerial roles, soft skills play the most important role. The technicalities of work can be learnt over a period of time, but it is only your soft skills that can make the real difference’.”

Darshita believes that she has emerged as a much better individual because of her knowledge and experiences at FORE School of Management.

“It would be unfair on my part to try and wrap up my 2 years at FORE in a single event. My journey in FORE has been very fond and memorable. At the end of 2 years, I did not just earn myself a management diploma, but also friends for a lifetime. Senior faculty members have such rich industry experience that it is a pleasure to learn from them.”

Darshita is confident that slowdown or no slowdown, managers from FORE School of Management will always be able to rise to the occasion, and be great assets to the organisations they serve.
