Corrosion Under Insulation, the Challenges and Its Management

Corrosion mitigation has become a multi-billion dollar affair. Corrosion managers are coming together to share knowledge related to Corrosion under insulation, in Kuala Lumpur.

Fleming Gulf Conference is organising a highly interactive 2-day seminar Corrosion Under Insulation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 10-11 June. This event will bring together corrosion engineers and managers for an open discussion and review on the current scenario with master-class trainer Dr. Stefan Winnik. He has over 35 years experience in metallurgy, materials (metallic and non-metallic), corrosion and tribology in the manufacturing and petrochemical industry. He is a leading authority in the field who has spent most of his 30 years in petrochemical companies trying to mitigate CUI.

The second edition of CUI workshop will be a corridor to the ASEAN petrochemical hub which has the ideal infrastructure to support a vibrant petrochemical industry. The presence of petroleum giants such as Shell and Exxon Mobil for over 100 years demonstrates their long-term confidence in Malaysia's oil and gas industry. Dr. Winnik recently retired from Exxon Mobil Chemical as a senior member of the Central Engineering department where he worked as a worldwide corrosion and materials advisor.

A thorough CUI program will help facility managers and engineers identify strategies for implementation. The training will consist of CUI management, risk based screening for inspection, design considerations, insulation and protective coatings, use of thermally sprayed aluminium, mitigation strategies, CUI case studies, innovations and discussion session - NACE SP0198-2010 vs. API 570. In CUI, it is best to think about long-term solutions and minimising future failures. CUI is an effort at all phases of the life cycle, but it starts with the engineering phase.

This multi-billion dollar problem is destroying expensive industrial infrastructure and causes the need for regular inspections for failure and unexpected downtime. This training will cover technical and management issues of corrosion under insulation and external corrosion. It will give the participants a unique offer to bring along their own cases for a class review and discussion. The training experience will be supported not only by highly-relevant content, but by hands-on case studies directly from the trainer's experience as well.
