Cognex Advances OCR Reading Software with Patent-Pending Auto-Tune Technology

The new auto-tune feature makes complex OCR applications simple for even the novice user and is available in the In-Sight® Explorer 4.8 and VisionPro® 8.1 software releases

Natick, MA (I-Newswire) February 18, 2013 - Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced that its industry-leading OCRMax™ technology now includes an automatic tuning capability. This new auto-tune feature makes complex OCR applications simple for even the novice user and is available in the In-Sight® Explorer 4.8 and VisionPro® 8.1 software releases.

Fast, simple setup for superior read rates
When a user clicks the auto-tune button, the system acquires a sample image and automatically adjusts the tool to its optimal parameters for robust reading performance. The advanced OCRMax algorithm prevents misreads and provides easy font management for optical character recognition and verification (OCR and OCV) applications (e.g., decoding human-readable date or lot codes or serial numbers). OCRMax is an all-in-one tool that can handle character variations, text skew, proportional fonts and variable string lengths, while providing high read rates, reduced setup time, and faster deployment.

Benchmark technology from the leader
“Decoding both human-readable text and compact Data Matrix codes are critical components of our customers’ supply chain traceability initiatives,” says Herbert Lade, Vice President and Business Unit Manager, Vision Systems. Lade adds, “Cognex technology is the benchmark for robust, reliable image-based code reading. Powerful software algorithms, combined with simple setup features like auto-tune for OCRMax, provide all of our customers with the industry’s highest read rates.”

In addition to the new feature, the In-Sight Explorer 4.8 software release includes enhancements for 2-D code reading, process feedback, and communications.
