Chicago Impressionistic Artist Survives the Weak Economy While Collectors See Paintings Rise in Value

While most artists took a hit from the economy in 2009, ChicagoImpressionism.com had its best year. Artist Greg Page's original impressionist style oil paintings rise in value annually as the artist refuses lowball offers from top executives.

(I-Newswire) March 5, 2010 - (Chicago, IL)—Artist Gregory A. Page, founder of ChicagoImpressionism.com had his best year in 2009 despite the recession, while ironically adopting Van Gogh’s approach when selling his originals. Page states “I have researched the value of art by visiting Museums and Galleries worldwide and artists should not sell a painting for less than its value”.

Van Gogh only sold 1 original while alive, Greg Page sold his first original this past October for $5,000, which is on the low end of his paintings’ prices. Since his first sale, Page has received several offers from top executives at MTV and the Dallas Cowboys, but refuses to budge on his prices. One MTV executive extended a lowball offer for a Howard Stern painting, but Page refused to let it go for less than it's value of $23,000.

Despite selling only one original, Page sold more prints of his 60 original pieces this year than ever. Page sells prints as postcards, and home decor, contributing to a successful 2009. Online prints vary in cost from a few dollars to high quality $1000.oil enhanced Giclee' printed on canvas.

Unlike many artists, Page does not need to compromise his prices because of having a successful career owning his own business. Furthermore, he does not see his art simply as a means to make extra money, his pieces are deeply inspired by many facets—spirituality, love, beautiful life experiences, combined with a raw and personal perspective of pop culture and aspects of life which are encountered daily. Page explains,

“These paintings are collectors’ pieces, one of a kind oil paintings. Often the paintings take months to finish, arduously applying 20+ layers of paint, and an artist deserves a fair price.”

Gregory A. Page is a local Chicago artist who displays his work in galleries around the world: Maui, Chicago, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, and Como, Italy. He is known for his technical genius as well as the free hand he uses to express his independent spirit in making social comment.

His work has been described by critics as Van Gogh-esque, but with a pulse, and is being recognized as the new genre “Chicago Impressionism.”
