Chesterfield MP Visit UK's Leading Vehicle Weighing Company

On Friday 1 February Toby Perkins, Labour’s Member of Parliament for Chesterfield will pay a special visit to the Chesterfield premises of Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) to mark the official opening of its impressive installation facilities.

Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and service of on-board weighing, bin-weighing and axle load protection systems. The company moved its installation activities to Chesterfield in 2009 and has expanded its operations since then, now accommodating a 20,000 sq. ft. factory at Sheepbridge Business Centre.

Julian Glasspole, Managing Director of Vehicle Weighing Solutions, which has a manufacturing facility in Reading, said: “Chesterfield was the obvious choice for this important part of our services, due to its central location and proximity to the M1. We were also very impressed by the excellent skill base in the area.”

Over a dozen people are employed at the Chesterfield site and interviews are currently underway for two new apprentices. VWS also employs some 45 engineers at its manufacturing base in Reading or as mobile service engineers.

VWS has made significant investment into its Chesterfield premises, with the installation of a new purpose built lifting system that allows engineers to fully lift any make of vehicle. New telephone and computer systems were installed before Christmas and the company plans to invest at least another £300k into developing facilities at the site.

A major feature at the premises is a unique 15 m long testing ramp that extends up to approximately 4m in height. It is the only one of its kind in the country. Set at 9 degrees, the ramp is used to test the repeatability of accurate weighing on vehicles, as they tilt, rise and fall. This helps to ensure the complete accuracy of any weighing system and is used by Trading Standards Officers during the approvals process.

Widely known as the market leader in weighing VWS is the first and only company in the UK to design and manufacture its own weights and measures approved bin-weighing system including all the components. The VWS bin weigher is known as ENVIROWEIGH.
