The Boston sports fan talks to TheCelebrityCafe.com about his two television series and how they expanded into a charity project.

Long Island, NY (I-Newswire) January 19, 2012 - LONG ISLAND, NY – Charlie Moore, the originator of NBC Sports Network hit series “Charlie Moore: No Offense,” is looking forward to hosting the show’s second season.

In a recent interview with TheCelebrityCafe.com, Moore said he combined his passion for Boston sports, outdoor lifestyles, and comedy into creating a framework for this unique show.

“Doing a show like this, you have to find a rhythm. It’s all about finding exactly what works,” Moore explained. “Sometimes we were more on the comedy side and other times we were more on the lifestyle side until we finally transformed it into what it is today. It is all about developing a certain brand and then sticking to that brand.”

During the first season, the show had invited famous guests ranging from professional athletes, celebrities, to even politicians. In the past, Moore has invited former boxer Micky Ward, New York Islanders’ head coach Jack Capuano, and quarterbacks Tom Brady and Doug Flutie. The “Charlie Moore: No Offense” show aims to bring in celebrities “who have come from adversity to achieve their goals” and “have very inspirational stories which helps put things in perspective.”

Moore’s success story started long before the creation of Charlie Moore: No Offense; before he began his current show, Moore also hosted the “Charlie Moore Outdoors on NESN,” which has since won four Emmy awards.

“We are currently in our 17th season of Charlie Moore Outdoors and I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished,” Moore said. “With the first Emmy that I won, I was up against really stiff competition. The Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots all had great seasons that year and to win the award against those teams was really a dream come true. I really felt like the little engine that could.”

Moore explains that it was also during his time at NESN when his nickname as the Mad Fisherman was formed. This nickname, which would later become the title of his book, traces back to a fishing adventure he had with some of his friends.

“I was with a couple of people fishing. It was a very tough day to fish because it was raining and it was about 40 degrees. After a few hours in, I finally caught a fish and went crazy in excitement. I went on a mad rant. We went back to the studio to watch the tape and someone called the Mad Fisherman. We immediately called a copyright lawyer and copyrighted that name and it stuck from there.”

But besides writing scripts and filming shows, Moore also dedicates a considerable amount of time to charitable causes. In 2007, he created a “Mad Fish Mud” ice cream flavor for Brigham’s Ice Cream in Boston for which all of the proceeds went to benefit the AIDS/HIV programs at the Children’s Hospital Boston.

“It is always important to give back when you can,” Moore commented. We started a new foundation, which is called the Mad Fish Family Foundation. I also try to help with Doug Flutie’s autism foundation as well. Also, for every one of my DVDs that are sold, five dollars went to the Children’s Hospital in Boston.”

Moore’s hard work as a successful host and philanthropist ultimately earned him a place in the New England Sports Hall of Fame, alongside Red Sox legends Ted Williams and Curt Gowdy. Moore recounts the ceremony as one that filled him with emotions and left him speechless.

“At the ceremony, I could barely talk. I was such a wreck and was completely overwhelmed with emotion. My television career wasn’t supposed to happen. I was up against so much adversity. To be able to win an Emmy, create my own ice cream flavor, DVD and book and then to be in front of over 18,000 people at the Boston Garden was an incredible feeling. “

The second season of “Charlie Moore: No Offense” premiered on January 5 and is broadcasted 9 PM ET on the NBC Sports Channel.
