Celebrations Galore at Sangam University Bhilwara Rajasthan
Observations of International Ozone Day, International Day of Peace, World Tourism Day etc have tremendous significance for the youth of India today as they provide tremendous learning opportunities for the global citizen of the future.
Online, September 28, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Montreal Protocol which was originally signed on 16 Sep 1987 and substantially amended in 1990 and 1992 stipulates that the production and consumption of compounds that deplete ozone in the stratosphere are to be phased out in a specified time period. On 19 December 1994, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly proclaimed 16 September every year to be observed as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer to commemorate the same date in 1987, on which the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances - ODS was signed. This year 2012 also happens to be the silver jubilee year of signing of landmark international agreement Montreal Protocol to protect the stratospheric ozone layer and the theme chosen is "Protecting our atmosphere for generations to come".
To mark this occasion, well known environmentalist Dr L K Dadhich gave a talk on issues pertaining to Global Warming at Sangam University Bhilwara on 17 Sep 2012. Executive Director of Sangam India Mr VK Sodani urged the students and faculty to see opportunities and challenges in the crisis unfolded by climate changes. Prof BR Natarajan President - Vice Chancellor Sangam University highlighted the significance of the day and gave an overview of the ODS. Office bearers of Giants Group of Bhilwara - Saheli also took part in the celebrations. The Dhanwantri Park with medicinal plants located in the adjoining Sangam School of Excellence was also inaugurated by Prof Dadhich. The Green Club of Sangam University coordinated the proceedings for the day.
Peace is not just yet another 5 letter word but a "divine manifestation which we have to give birth to within ourselves". The theme chosen this year for celebrations of International Day of Peace is "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future." Each year the International Day of Peace is observed all over the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. No one has doubt that there can be no sustainable future without a sustainable peace which must be built on sustainable development. The International Day of Peace offers people globally a shared date to think about how, individually, they can contribute to ensuring that natural resources are managed in a sustainable manner, thus reducing potential for disputes, and paving the road to a sustainable future, the "Future We Want".
On the occasion of International Day of Peace, Professor BR Natarajan shared with the faculty and students of ITM Sangam University Bhilwara, the significance of the day which included the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Professor Natarajan also highlighted the significance associated with OM the mystical and sacred Sanskrit sound as well as the number 108 which is a very interesting both metaphysically and mathematically.

Over the decades, tourism as a key driver for socio-economic progress has indeed experienced continued growth and deepening ‎diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. September 27 every year is celebrated as World Tourism Day - WTD, a special day set by the United Nations World Tourism Organization - UNWTO and the theme for 2012 is "Tourism & Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development" which aims to highlight tourism's role in a brighter energy future; a future in which the world's entire population has access to modern, efficient and affordable energy services. The theme is also an opportunity to ensure that international tourism continues to play a role in tackling the major energy challenges of our time, being addressed by the 2012 United Nations International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.
