Capitol Hill Martial Arts and CrossFit Academy Offers Afterschool KidFit Care for Ages 6-10
MAFA, Capitol Hill Martial Arts and CrossFit Academy in Washington DC, is taking enrollment for Kid Fit Aftercare starting January 2013. Age appropriate activities for kids 6-10 include martial arts, cross fit, homework support, field trips and more.
Washington, DC (I-Newswire) December 17, 2012 - Capitol Hill Martial Arts and CrossFit Academy, located at 201 15th St, SE, announced that they are currently filling January-June 2013 spaces for their popular after-school KidCare program for boys and girls age 6-10, who attend participating Capitol Hill Schools.
Children who attend Peabody, Tyler, Watkins, Maury, Payne, or Miner Elementary Schools on Capitol Hill, will be transported to MAFA by van, at 3:15 each school day that they participate.
"Parents enroll children in advance," says MAFA owner and head coach Rita Floyd," and can sign them up to participate anywhere from one to five days a week. It is really flexible, to meet the needs of both parents and kids."
MAFA, as it is commonly known, opened in October of 2010 as the first and only martial arts training academy in the U.S, and in the world, especially geared to women and children. That is a legacy and founding claim that will remain an important part of the MAFA story.
In November of 2012, MAFA expanded its program offerings to include CrossFit training under the professional leadership of Patrick Johnson, founder of CrossFit Capitol Hill. Men and women, and now kids too, can sign up for and attend Cross Fit classes.
Mixed martial arts classes, for women and for children, combine elements of Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Thai Boxing, while Warrior Yoga is specially designed for martial artists and athletes.
Children as young as 3 and as old as 13 participate in children's martial arts classes called Tiny Ninjas, Little Dragons, and Jr. MAFA.
Kid Fit Aftercare is the school-year solution for families that want safe, constructive, well-supervised options for their elementary school-age children. And the kids who attend, love it. During the summer and during school vacations, MAFA offers all-day camps for children of all ages, that meet the same need.
"The activities in KidFit Aftercare--sometimes called KidCare--are age appropriate and well-balanced between high-level activity, quiet time for homework, and a full range of activities that kids enjoy," says Floyd. "KidFit gets their brains engaged for better concentration, and it helps work out the physical energy needs that have built up during the school day."
Another important aspect of Kid Fit Aftercare, is the role it plays in the anti-bullying movement. Contrary to a misconception held by some people, martial arts for kids does not make them more aggressive. Rather, it helps them learn how to manage and avoid conflict, while also providing them with the confidence and skills to take care of and defend themselves in the event of threat by a larger and stronger opponent--a bully.
"We see the kids who come to MAFA on a regular basis develop better social skills and become happier because they are more comfortable and confident around others," Floyd shares with a big smile. "Most of them even start getting better grades because they have better concentration and have learned a kind of self-discipline that carries over into their whole lives."
