Calling All Cooks for the 1st Annual Diabetes Cook Off Contest!
If you know you can cook and have a great tasting and healthy recipe...now is your time to shine! Amateur cooks compete on south side of Chicago for cash and prizes for Diabetes Awareness Month!
Online, October 19, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Southside Diabetes Project was created four years ago to improve diabetes care and outcomes on the South Side of Chicago. The primary mission is to reduce disparities in diabetes, increase diabetes awareness, and empower Chicago's south side community to use its knowledge and resources to combat diabetes. There are over 35,000 African Americans on the Southside of Chicago with Type 2 diabetes and three out of five of them do not know that they have the disease.
In observance of National Diabetes Month, The Southside Diabetes Project announces its first Diabetes Cook Off Contest. The cook off is an opportunity for amateur cooks to compete and share their best diabetes friendly, healthy recipe! Recipes in four categories: side dish, entree, dessert, and snack will be judged for cash and prizes! Professionals Chef Brian X, Chicago's "Fat Chef" Michael Digby, and Cookin' With Jazz Chef Jimmy Carter will serve as celebrity judges.
Amateur cooks can enter online at Improving Diabetes Care on Facebook or email info@southsidediabetes.org. Entry deadline is Thursday, November 1, 2012.
Selected cooks will compete on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Washburne Culinary Institute located at 740 West 63rd St, Building U, on the south side of Chicago.
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize! With runner ups receiving cookware and other prizes! If you can cook and have a tasty healthy recipe, we want to hear from you!
