The South Bay Vascular Center (SBVC) in Campbell, CA is proud to announce that Dr. Polly Kokinos, SBVC’s Medical Director and lead vascular surgeon, has earned her advanced credentials to become a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation.
Campbell (I-Newswire) September 26, 2012 - The South Bay Vascular Center (SBVC) in Campbell, CA (www.southbayvascular.com) is proud to announce that Dr. Polly Kokinos, SBVC’s Medical Director and lead vascular surgeon, has earned her advanced credentials to become a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
The RPVI credential signifies that Dr. Kokinos has achieved the highest standard in vascular ultrasound interpretation — which is a critical part of vascular surgery. With RPVI credentialing, Dr. Kokinos is deemed a leader in the interpretation of vascular examinations, with the advanced skills and knowledge needed to make sound diagnoses in vascular disease.
The RPVI designation and certification process were developed in response to requests from physicians and specialists in vascular medicine, to help advance the practice of vascular surgery. In order for Dr. Kokinos to earn the valued RPVI credential, she first had to meet specific educational and professional requirements. She then had to pass the Physicians’ Vascular Interpretation examination, given by the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery. The exam takes four hours to complete, and contains 200 questions covering current vascular laboratory practice, diagnostic knowledge, and clinical skills. After physicians earn the RPVI credential, they must accrue Continuing Medical Education credits in vascular ultrasound to maintain active status.
Having a certified RPVI on staff at the South Bay Vascular Center is a valuable addition for both the center and the patients it serves. It is also a compliment to the fact that, at SBVC, only Registered Vascular Technologists perform vascular sonography examinations. To learn more, visit the center online.
