Calgary Environmental Company Livestock Water Recycling, Inc. Honored in Dairy Herd Management’s Top 10 Innovation Awards 2011 for Its Unique Manure Treatment System

The LWR Manure Treatment System’s most recent award is won at the World Dairy Expo. The innovative system alleviates many common problems associated with current livestock practices and ever-increasing regulatory pressure.

Calgary (I-Newswire) December 16, 2011 - In the first ever Dairy Herd Innovation Awards, Livestock Water Recycling, Inc. (LWR) earns a place in the top 10 for its manure treatment system. The LWR system takes effluent directly from the barn which is composed of manure and water, and as it flows through the system, solids are sequentially removed. The system immediately treats and processes the manure resulting in clean potable water, dry solids and concentrated liquid nutrients.

Common manure management practices in the livestock industry include the use of large ponds or lagoons for storing manure which drastically limits operations. Problems include land spreading and permitting issues, high costs associated with transporting large volumes of manure and odor resulting in negative neighbor relations. These issues are particularly prevalent in confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), such as those used for dairy or swine.

Ever-increasing regulatory pressure facing the livestock industry provides a challenge to farmers; LWR presents a refreshing alternative to current practices. With its forward-thinking process there is zero discharge, all aspects of the manure are consolidated into useful by-products for the farm operation. The clean water produced is drinking water quality and can be used for animal consumption or irrigation purposes. The dry solids and concentrated liquids are nutrient rich fertilizers which can be used on the farmland or sold for profit.

LWR has over twenty years of experience building and installing groundwater and wastewater treatment systems. The LWR manure treatment system uses mechanical and chemical processes to completely treat the manure. With an increasing interest in sustainable farming operations, LWR provides a promising alternative into a fast evolving livestock industry. The company remains price competitive with that of a lined lagoon, and the system not only provides a cost benefit but also an environmental benefit to the consumer and their surroundings.

The Top Ten award was presented at the World Dairy Expo which took place October 4th – 8th 2011 in Madison, Wisconsin. The LWR system also won the World Ag Expo Top 10 Award and the Emerald Award in 2010.

LWR is currently installing a new system at a dairy operation near Chilliwack, British Columbia. LWR will be exhibiting at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, California in February 2012 - Booth 6121.
