British Teen Drama "The Cut" Makes Its U.S. Debut
Attention Span Media has launched "The Cut", the hit teen TV drama created by the BBC, in the US. The first season, with new episodes each Saturday and new chapters each weekday, is now available in the US.
Los Angeles (I-Newswire) May 15, 2012 - The Cut, the hit British teen drama created by the BBC, had made its U.S. debut exclusively on the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service. Attention Span Media, the social media agency and producer of the breakout college drama Dorm Life, is the show’s distributor in the U.S. through an exclusive first-run, multi-year distribution agreement with Content Digital.
The Cut is a fast-paced modern teen drama about a group of friends living in London. Geoffrey Goodwin and Al Smith (EastEnders, Holby City) created the series. It’s directed by Sarah Walker (Hollyoaks, In the City) and stars the who’s-who of established and up and coming British talent, including Scarlett Bowman (Hollyoaks), Matt Kane (Skins, Casualty), Tosin Coke (Hollyoaks, EastEnders), Samuell Benta (Power Rangers), Steven Hartley (Merlin, EastEnders) and Lara Goodison (Weekender).
Season 1, the first of 3 full TV seasons, premiered on April 23rd on Hulu and Hulu Plus in an innovative pattern that mirrors the BBC launch; two 5-minute chapters will be released every weekday, and two full half-hour episodes air on Saturdays.
In this first season, a stranger's death draws 18 year-old Jay (Samuell Benta) to London where he meets the Mackinnons and the Loxleys, two families with an age-old history of bad blood. Posh girl Marla Mackinnon (Lara Goodison) falls for Jay, but Mack (Dermot Martin), her controlling dad, does not stand for it. Olive Loxley (Billie North) is dreaming of escape from her over-protective sister, Toni (Jess Dickens) and their family café, but is troubled Stephen Mackinnon (Matt Kane) really her way out?
