Raise Funds for Autism Research - Botanolution skin care company announces its plans to raise funds for Stanford's autism care and research at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital

San Jose, California (I-Newswire) January 19, 2012 - Botanolution, a boutique company specializing in organic health and beauty products, is pleased to announce plans to raise funds for autism care and research at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. One hundred percent of profits from the sale of Kaleb’s Potion, the company’s special blend of bath salts infused with essential oils, will go to support the research work of Antonio Hardan, MD, Director of the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic at Packard Children’s and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Stanford School of Medicine.

“Kaleb’s Potion was named after my six-year-old son who was diagnosed on the autism spectrum,” says Jennifer Tran, CEO and Founder of Botanolution. “He was my inspiration for founding Botanolution, when I discovered that therapeutic bath salts could be beneficial to him. While the effectiveness of these baths has not been studied scientifically, I felt that they helped him to be more calm and relaxed. Although he has difficulty with communication, he is very empathetic, which is considered an unusual trait for autistic individuals. I know deep in my heart that he is happy to be part of this charitable effort,” she adds.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that an average of 1 out of 110 children in the U.S. suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorders. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the brain’s thought process by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize. The disorder is characterized by impaired communication, difficulties in social interactions, and repetitive behavior. Scientific studies have shown that early intensive behavioral intervention and therapy improves learning, communication, and social skills in young children with autism. While the outcomes vary, all children benefit from autism therapy and treatment methods.

“The Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research Program (autismdd.stanford.edu) studies the neurobiologic underpinnings of autism and other related developmental disorders,” says Dr. Hardan. “Our work focuses on increasing our understanding of environmental and genetic factors that may contribute to the development of these disorders. It also aims at developing and testing innovative interventions and therapies. Botanolution is helping to provide critical funds to support these important research activities.”
