Mumbai (I-Newswire) February 26, 2013 - BigRock, one of Indias leading domain registrars and web hosting companies, today announced the launch of a new payment facility - Cash on Delivery (CoD) for its customers in India. Starting today, BigRock customers will be able to book domain names and web hosting products online and pay cash at their doorstop at which point the products will be activated within minutes. The service is expected to go live shortly and makes BigRock the first domain registrar globally to introduce this facility.
BigRock has partnered with Gharpay, an organized doorstep payment network to facilitate this service in India. The service is currently available for BigRock customers across 15 cities including Top-Tier Metros and Tier II cities. It is currently offered to customers in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Vishakhapatnam, New Mumbai and Thane. The service will be extended to other cities in the near future.
Commenting on the launch of this new service, Bhavin Turakhia, Founder, BigRock, said Given the low penetration of electronic payment methods in India, the Cash on Delivery facility provides BigRock customers yet another option in addition to existing modes of payments like credit/debit cards, net banking, and cheque payments. We have observed that even savvy online customers often prefer to pay cash on delivery for the products they purchase. We are delighted to be the first domain registrar to roll out this service and are confident that it will help us serve our customers better.
Shashank Mehrotra, General Manager & Business Head, BigRock, added, E-commerce in India is still being driven by cash recent industry reports have claimed that up to 60-70% of all online purchases online are finally settled using cash. This was a big eye-opener for us. Also, given the poor transaction completion rates across major forms of electronic payments in the entire e-commerce space in India, we aim to improve customer experience by providing this option. He clarified further that this new payment mechanism is not strictly cash-on-delivery per say, its more like activation-on-cash given that we deal in virtual goods like domains and hosting. Clearly, Cash on Delivery is a term that is well understood and has strong awareness. We believe it will appeal to all our customer segments.
Speaking on the partnership with BigRock, Abhishek Nayak, CEO, Gharpay, said, We are delighted to partner with BigRock and introduce a unique vertical to our existing bouquet of partners. Being the first organized doorstep network within the country for cash collection, Gharpay helps Indian businesses to enable last mile connectivity combined with real-time tracking of customer deliveries. We aim to bring value to web businesses by emerging as a focused one-stop cash collection network that is synonymous with trust, speed and safety.
