FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2010 Black Family Technology Awareness Week Summit
BEYA Middle School VEX Robotics Championships

(Baltimore, MD) January 2010 - Parents, are you looking for an exciting, fun, free educational event that will engage and inspire your kids? Then get the family together and come to the 2010 Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW) Summit where the smartest young minds in Baltimore and from across the country will battle it out during the finals of two VEX robotics competitions. The events will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center on Friday, February 19, between 9:00 AM and 4 PM and continue on Saturday, February 20, between 10 AM and 4 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

The BEYA college, high school and middle school VEX Robotics competitions will inspire and motivate impressionable young minds to enhance their skills in the critical STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and math). Attendees will also get a better understanding of why it is critical to develop leadership and problem-solving skills while displaying their raw talent in a competitive environment. Again, this year’s competitions are part of Career Communications Group’s national campaign to urge students to explore and pursue careers in the STEM disciplines.

According to Tyrone D. Taborn, US Black Engineer and Information Technology magazine publisher and CEO, “The Black Family Technology Awareness Campaign was never about simple Internet access and mere computer ownership, but rather about African Americans becoming true beneficiaries of the many assets of technology and all it has to offer. The robotics competitions are a great opportunity to see the implementation of several different core STEM skills by the country’s brightest youth in a fun environment.”

IBM, the Cardinal Health Foundation and USBE & IT magazine are proud sponsors of the eleventh Black Family Technology Awareness Week and corresponding programs nationwide. Visit the Black Family Network website at www.blackfamilynet.net for more information about how to join the campaign.

The VEX Robotics Competition is the largest and fastest growing middle and high school robotics program globally with more than 2,000 teams from 20 countries playing in over 170 tournaments worldwide. The VEX Robotics Design System is affordable, robust and offers an assortment of over 200 of the most advanced educational robotics products available today. See www.vexrobotics.com for more information on the VEX Robotics Design System and the VEX Robotics Competition.

About Career Communications Group Inc.:
CCG has built strong, lasting partnerships with many of the top companies and government agencies in America. The strength of these relationships has been developed around the premise that thoughtful, substantive corporate diversity strategies will reap positive returns on that investment in both the short and long term.

CCG has created an integrated and inspiring group of magazines, dynamic Web sites, and outstanding annual national conferences that provide a powerful forum for organizations to find and retain the best and the brightest minority technologists.

CCG’s approach is unique. Our business strategy connects our audience — minority technology professionals, aspiring college and university technology students, and pre-college students who are interested in a technology future — with the organizations that have the potential to fulfill their career goals. CCG reaches tens of thousands of minority students and professionals each year with the goal of introducing them to opportunities and providing the motivation to take that next step to a high-potential, technology oriented career.

CCG consultants/associates work with partner organizations to position and use CCG’s products and services to help the partners expand the impact of their diversity strategies and programs. The tactical goal is to assist partners in the recruiting and the retention of top minority engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and information technologists. The increased visibility resulting from these initiatives sends an important signal to potential candidates that our partners have proactive diversity strategies. For the firms’ minority employees, it reinforces their original decision to join that organization. The long-term objective is to enhance the visibility of the partners’ diversity programs, within the minority technology community and within their own organizations.

It is also intended to demonstrate that the partners are not only committed to but also proactive in the development of a diverse high-tech employee team, because they know that it is best for the organizations’ long-term success.
