Better Health Is Free

Dian Griesel, who has worked for the past 25 years with companies trying to find cures for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other devastating diseases, firmly believes you can be healthy without breaking the bank.

New York, NY (I-Newswire) September 15, 2011 - Although processed, high-calorie foods may be cheaper in the short run, the permanent damage they ultimately cause is deadly. So says Dian Griesel, Ph.D., who with her brother Tom Griesel has written the new book TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust (April 2011, BSH).

Dian, who has worked for the past 25 years with companies trying to find cures for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other devastating diseases, firmly believes you can be healthy without breaking the bank.

“One suggestion is to ditch the sports drinks/energy drinks/flavored water, and drink water and water only,” Dian says. “Water is the best, least expensive and most money saving health tip and is something we all have access to for free! Most of us are eating, believing we are hungry, when in fact we are thirsty. This simple conundrum is the single greatest cause of the fat we are all gaining as a nation.”

And who says you need a gym membership or fancy equipment to be fit? “Everyone can save money and gain health by walking as much as possible and by doing mini-weight routines with barbells (soup cans will work) for 5 minutes a day,” Tom Griesel adds. “Many of these can be done sitting right at your desk.”

The Griesel’s also suggest checking if your town has a fruit and vegetable co-op—a group of people who pool their time, resources and buying power to purchase good-quality fresh fruits and vegetables at low cost.

Another of their tips is to stop eating out. It’s pricey, and not as healthy as what you would eat if you were to cook at home. Seventy-five percent of the sugar we consume is in the processed foods we buy at stores or in restaurants, compare that to 25% that is added directly at home.
