Bellwether Community Credit Union Launches CheckDeposit24

Manchester, NH (I-Newswire) October 15, 2010 - Bellwether Community Credit Union recently launched CheckDeposit24, a service that allows members to deposit checks remotely in less than three minutes from their home or office. By using CheckDeposit24, members can make check deposits twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week-- eliminating trips to a branch. Within the next few months, Bellwether Community Credit Union plans to launch a smartphone application to augment the service.

Members of Bellwether Community Credit Union have quickly embraced the benefits of CheckDeposit24 since deposits can be made at their convenience. “Bellwether Community Credit Union is excited to offer CheckDeposit24 to our members. To use CheckDeposit24, members need a computer, scanner and Internet connection. Members register for the service online. Once Bellwether Community Credit Union reviews and approves their registration, members can simply log onto Bellwether’s Internet Banking system, scan a check and submit the deposit.

Bellwether Community Credit Union’s CheckDeposit24 is commonly known in the industry as Remote Deposit Capture. The technology has been increasingly offered by financial institutions for business customers but it not widely available for consumers.
Recent legislation under the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act or “Check 21” made the product possible. Implemented in October 2004, the act enabled banks to clear checks based on an image of the original item, instead of transporting it to the paying bank for clearing.
