Online, January 2, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Army Corp of Engineers' $18,332,500 beach replenishment project for beaches from Asbury Park to Avon-by-the-Sea is slated to begin in Ocean Grove shortly after the first of the New Year. This is part of an overall $102 million dollar replenishment project from Sea Bright to Manasquan which is the world's largest beach restoration project to ever be undertaken. This will not only repair the damage done to our beaches from Super Storm Sandy, but will also reduce the risk of damage in these seaside towns from future storms.
The Army Corp of Engineers has reported that Sandy took 5 million cubic yards of sand from the coastline between Sea Bright and Manasquan and they intend to replace it with 8 million cubic yards of sand and suitably engineered dunes. The project was broken down into four sections and all are slated for completion by May of 2014, just in time for the 2014 summer season. The beaches are the heart and soul of the Jersey Shore and the main reason people come here to vacation. This replenishment program is not only an important part of the healing process for the residents and businesses of the shore, but is also vital to driving the tourism business which is the source of income for many at the Jersey Shore.
