Background Check Company Cuts Through Confusion of the New I-9 Form

The new Employee Verification form, “I-9” was produced by USCIS last week. Selection.com- a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening company helps employers cut through the confusion in a webinar with answers to common question

Cincinnati, OH (I-Newswire) March 12, 2013 - While every employer in the US has had to document employment verification since 1986, the USCIS issued a revised I-9 form last week.

According to Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security, “ICE has audited more than 8,079 employers, debarred 726 companies and imposed more than $87.9 million in financial sanctions since fiscal year 2009.”

More confusion is likely to set in with employers and Human Resource directors around the country as they deal with these changes, and the requirements that, in the event of an audit, they provide electronic documents for all employees within 72 hours. Audits can lead to fines and fines begin accumulating if the employers are not able to provide electronic copies.

The new form includes a variety of procedural, informational and legal changes. Human Resource departments must be very careful to comply with the legal requirements of this form.

Fortunately, some background check companies are answering the need to clarify changes and provide some answers. A co-sponsored webinar about the changes in the I-9 form took place recently.

“The I-9 Form can be very complex. Through our partnership with LawLogix, Selection.com is helping provide answers to employers, maintain compliance and avoid costly sanctions that could result from poor employment verification standards,” said Brian Huseman, New Account Manager at Selection.com.

The webinar included common questions from employers as well as detailed answers from subject matter experts.

What happens if someone missed the webinar?

“If anyone missed this webinar,” Huseman added, “we can provide them with the cliffnotes version. All they have to do is email me.”
