Back to School - the Perfect Time for PeopleTowels’ New Eco-Habit

PeopleTowels in Kids’ Backpacks Will Reduce Paper Towel Waste at School

CA (I-Newswire) August 9, 2012 - PeopleTowels, the on-the-go, sustainable alternative to paper towels, has entered the Back to School season with a new eco-habit campaign that will save trees and reduce landfill waste. Launched on the crowdfunding site, Indiegogo, PeopleTowels’ Kids 4 the Planet campaign plans to give away thousands of free PeopleTowels along with environmental and cultural themed lesson plans.

With Kids 4 the Planet, PeopleTowels is introducing U.S. children to the decades-old Japanese custom of using personal hand towels rather than paper towels. The campaign is asking kids to enter a design competition for a new line of PeopleTowels that will be given away to kids in schools, clubs or organizations nominated in the campaign.

The recent popularity of crowdfunding sites has proven an attractive alternative to companies like PeopleTowels that want to jumpstart programs or products. Recent campaigns similar to Kids 4 the Planet have been successfully supported on Indiegogo helping social entrepreneurs implement positive change projects.

“Studies show that habits formed as children carry into adulthood,” said Linda Lannon, PeopleTowels co-founder. “In Japan, children bring a personal hand towel to school every day, creating a life-long sustainable habit that doesn’t include paper towels. With Kids 4 the Planet, we’ll be giving away PeopleTowels and showing kids, who are our future environmentalists, that even they can make a difference with a simple, eco-friendly change in their daily routine.”

Just like the widely used cloth shopping bags and reusable water bottles, PeopleTowels are designed for portability. The custom-made fabric is absorbent, yet it dries quickly for on-the-go use. The winning design is expected to be a fun, whimsical design that will be printed with eco-friendly dyes, to encourage the B.Y.O.Towel™ habit. Convenient hangtags allow kids to clip PeopleTowels to their backpack or lunch sack.
