Sacramento, CA (I-Newswire) February 21, 2012 - The same question is asked every year: What’s your New Year’s resolution? Usually, we say the same basic things, lose weight, save money and kill a bad habit.
It is really easy to make a resolution, but keeping them takes a little effort. “It is like anything,” says Heather Evans at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Sacramento, “you’ve got to want what you’re trying to accomplish and then be willing to put forth a little effort.” Here are a few things to help you actually achieve your resolutions for 2012.
1. Kiss the Bulge Good BYE!!!
Losing weight, what a broad--- possibly overwhelming goal. Make it more attainable by breaking it down. For example:
Eat Less and Eat healthier – This is a big step towards the ultimate goal of losing weight. Every time you eat a healthy meal write it down. Before you know it, you’ll have eaten 20 healthy meals. That’s 20 times you were successful!! Success begets success. Also, avoid gimmicky diets, they’re expensive and they only work for a little while. Changing you’re eating habits is a life change not a 12 week gimmick.
Burn Baby Burn – Motivating yourself to get up and get moving seems to be really hard for people today. Especially since so many of us have sedentary lifestyles. Begin with small goals. Don’t run out and join the gym, because you’ll likely not go and then you’ve “failed” and wasted money. You’ve heard it before but it works—15 minute nightly walks will start the ball rolling. Do this for a while and get up to a level where you want to perhaps sign up for a Zumba class or two. Remember, the secret to losing weight is burn more calories than you consume. It is that simple.
2. Hang the Habit
First of all, to change anything about your life, you have to want to do it. No threats of cancer, emphysema or anything else will really make anyone kill a habit. The desire to quit has to be there. Educate yourself on the harmful effects of whatever your favorite poison is. This may help give you that extra nudge to a yearning to quit. And remember just because it didn’t work the first time, try it again. Like cigarettes for example- the average person attempts to quit around 7 times before they’ve actually kicked the habit for good. Been there done that? Well do it again!!
The above examples are just 2 of the most common resolutions people make each year. The same basic principles can really be applied to any resolution you’re planning on implementing in your life.
Guidelines for Achieving Goals:
1.Be realistic. Small steps. (break down bigger goals into smaller ones)
2.Set deadlines and stick to them
3.Ask someone to help you, be accountable to them.
4.Don’t give up if you slip—pick yourself up and keep on going.
5.Track your progress, visual confirmations are empowering.
6.Don’t be afraid to be proud of your achievements, if you do well, tell yourself!!
