Auto Mechanic Schools Names Most-Stolen Cars of the Past Decade

A recent list published by automotive website Auto Mechanic Schools reveals the most often-stolen automobiles of the past decade.

(I-Newswire) August 12, 2010 - The '95 Honda Civic has been named the most often-stolen automobile of the 2000s, followed by Honda's popular Accord and the '89 Toyota Camry, according to a recent list published by automotive website Auto Mechanic Schools. The list uses data collected from the National Crime Insurance Bureau for the past decade, including the organization's annual top-10 stolen car lists.

Large production numbers contribute to the high theft rate for 1995 model Civics, along with the car's tendency to be heavily customized with after-market modifications, according to Auto Mechanic Schools. The ability to easily swap parts between different models is another contributing factor for the Civic, as well as for the Accord and Camry, and the three cars have consistently ranked at the top of NICB stolen-car lists every year since 2001.

Other models named on the list include the Ford F-150, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram and the Jeep Cherokee, each of which has been ranked among the NICB's top 10 stolen cars at least three times.
