More than 50 copies of his World War II love story "The Dad I Never Knew" were shipped to Books for Soldiers. These books are earmarked for US soldiers in Afghanistan.

Matthews, NC (I-Newswire) September 29, 2011 - Matthews, NC Author Bruce Brodowski, President of Carolinas Ecumenical Healing Ministries has donated more than 50 copies of his World War II love story "The Dad I Never Knew" to Books for Soldiers. These books are earmarked for US soldiers in Afghanistan.

Art Mills, award winner author of The Empty Lot Next Door, is stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan and requesting print books for himself and his fellow troop members. He stated "most of the books are old and worn-out, indicating people read them and hand them to others."
It is a lonely world in Afghanistan and if we can bring a smile or tear to our soldiers it will be a reminder to them that we do care.

"The Dad I Never Knew" presents Brodowski's dad’s direct observations of life as a soldier, both in Europe and stateside, from 1943 until his death in the closing days of the European war, in 1945. It is recommended for anyone with an interest in military history, World War II, soldiers' lives, or the psychological effects of long separation from loved ones.

Carefully and articulately written. The reader shares along with the author his quest to know the man and to make sense of the life the son was destined to follow.
—John Helman, Allbooks Reviews

It is nearly impossible to miss the power and urgency behind the tender words and expressions of hope and heartache. Ed’s love for his wife and longing for home is heart-wrenching and humbling, and Maryanne’s decided devotion during a time of personal despair speaks of values that are easily forgotten in our time.
— April Dellinger, Charlotte Literature Examiner
