Atlanta Attorney To Interview For UI General Counsel Position

(I-Newswire) July 12, 2005 - Griffin practices with the Atlanta firm of Elarbee, Thompson, Sapp & Wilson, specializing in higher education legal issues, particularly human resources and employment law. Prior to that he worked for a law firm in Kalamazoo, Mich., and as a special projects assistant for the University of Northern Iowa's vice president of administration and finance. He was also a clerk for the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Griffin earned a Ph.D. from the UI and a master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa. His bachelor's degree is from Southern University in New Orleans and his law degree from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Va.

The new general counsel will oversee a staff of five attorneys that provide legal services on issues facing the University of Iowa, its colleges and departments. The office also helps develop policies, practices, and procedures that reduce the risk of legal problems, and provide legal counsel, representation, interpretation and analysis on a broad array of issues.

The new general counsel will replace Mark Schantz, who stepped down from the position June 30. He will rejoin the faculty of the UI College of Law.
