New York, NY (I-Newswire) January 27, 2011 - AsianInNY, New York’s premier online destination for multicultural networking and entertainment, is partnering with the Greater Chinatown Community Association (GCCA) to present a festive celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 5, 2011, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, at the Chinese Community Center Auditorium, 62 Mott Street, in Chinatown. Co-hosting the night of international entertainment is the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), which is providing the beautiful venue for the event.

“We have gathered an exciting lineup of Asian and Asian American talent to bring guests a night of comedy, music, and fashion,” says Diana Lee, principal partner at AsianInNY. “There will be great live performances, two fabulous fashion runway shows, foot-stomping music, a top martial arts and dance group, and amazing drinks.” “The night will be a fun, unforgettable celebration to start the Year of the Rabbit. This will also give everyone a chance to see what people do to celebrate the most important holiday in Asia and provide a venue for Asians to share the amazing night together”, adds Chris Nicodemo, co-founder of AsianInNY.

The MC for the night’s festivities will be stand-up comedian Air Tabigue, who has been seen on NBC, FOX, PBS, and TFC. Tabigue also produces and hosts the “CombinAsian Comedy Show,” a very popular monthly act at Laugh Lounge, on the Lower Eastside. He will keep guests at the Lunar New Year event entertained throughout the night.

The event’s lineup of rock, pop, rap, and hip hop includes Teresa Lee, lead vocalist for rock/pop band PaperDoll. PaperDoll has often been described as a combination of Gwen Stefani and Green Day. PaperDoll has appeared on NBC’s “Today Show,” FOX’s “Good Day New York,” and on MTV. Also on the bill is Young Kin, an MC and rapper from Beijing, China, of Chinese and Swiss background. His musical merging of Western swagger and Eastern tradition is changing the direction of youth culture in China. Talented vocalist Pamela J Powell, born in the Philippines, had her first stage performance at the age of 3, can sing R&B, Pop, Hip Hop, Neo Soul and anything. Spinning music for the night will be DJ J4, who has released four rap albums in Taiwan and has performed with many popular celebrities in Taiwan.

Dancing at the Lunar New Year celebration will be the David Shen Dance Group. The group’s choreographer, martial artist and dancer David Shen, won the gold medal at the 1997 National Tai Chi Competition in Taiwan. He has danced with the Taipei Folk Dance Troupe, the Peggy Wu Jazz Dance Company, and the Nai Ni Chan Dance Company. An executive board member at Yangtze Rep, Shen has danced with the Carolyn Dorman Dance Company since 2003.

A special feature during the event will be two fashion runway shows, a womenswear show and a menswear show. Presenting womenswear will be designer Way Zen, who combines her Chinese heritage with her New York sensibility to create the JSong Collection of beautiful hand-finished and functional clothing for women. Menswear will be presented by designer Janet Zheng, a winner of Fashion Group International and Council of Fashion Designers of America national competitions. Zheng’s collection takes root from her Chinese background and she exclusively casts Asian models for fashion shows.

The longest and most important holiday on the Lunar calendar, Lunar New Year is joyously celebrated in countries throughout Asia. A traditional belief is that the way someone begins their Lunar New Year foreshadows what will happen for them during the rest of the year. AsianInNY promises to help guests at their event start Lunar New Year with laughter, good music, and great company.

Major sponsors supporting production of AsianInNY’s Lunar New Year party include Aambermanagement Production, Asahi Beer, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, Haruo Noro Salon, Illuminaire Management, ITO EN, IZZE Sparkling Juice, Jade Chiu Collection, Kallisti Jewelry, MX2 Design Force, Noyu Teas, Alice Chin PR, and 247Feature.com.
