Artist Takes a Stand with Foundation for a Drug-Free World

Artist A.D. Maddox is making a difference in society with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

Nashville, TN (I-Newswire) July 28, 2011 - In a world where TV and movies make drugs popular, some artists stand against it. One such artist is nationally acclaimed oil painter A.D. Maddox who has recently returned home to Nashville after two decades in Wyoming. She is on fire both in her career and in her avid stance against drug abuse.

Maddox is heralded as one of the top fly-fishing artists in the world. She is routinely featured in top magazines of the sport, and the sales of her paintings continue to increase. But coming home to Nashville isn’t just about achieving her own success—she is deeply concerned about Nashville’s future.

Over 6 million people live in Tennessee, and about 30% of adults use drugs, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Maddox had her own experience with drugs and was able to overcome her use by learning the truth about them.

Her solution came in the form of a book by L. Ron Hubbard, entitled Clear Body, Clear Mind. Hubbard’s solution was a unique drug rehabilitation program that not only addressed what drugs spelled in terms of mental and spiritual debilitation, including scrambled thinking and diminished awareness, but further addressed the problem which led one to take drugs in the first place.

She found that the more she learned, the more she wanted to spread this information to others. “I know I have to be part of a movement that turns youth away from a life of drug abuse and addiction,” says Maddox, “that’s why I have joined the Foundation for a Drug-Free South.” She now works with other volunteers to distribute the Foundation’s “Truth About Drugs” booklets to drug users and potential users, giving them the chance and hope to lead a clean life.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free South exists to create a drug-free zone by educating youth and adults alike. It is a chapter of the Foundation for a Drug Free World, an international organization formed in the early 1990s.
