Archery, Dance & Tennis Competitions Open River City Sports Festival in Mason City, Iowa

Mason City, Iowa, April 23, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Archery, Dance and Tennis competitions are the first of nine featured tournaments being showcased at the inaugural River City Sports Festival [RCSF] in Mason City, Iowa. These particular tournaments begin on May 9 & 10, 2014, with many competitions across the sports, and separated into several age and gender divisions for both amateur athletes and sport enthusiasts.

Ronin' Productions LLC, the presenter of RCSF, and event organizers have recently reported that registration is mounting, and much of the growing interest in the Iowa area is due to the strong lineup of competitions and tournaments being offered during the three-day event, as well as the headlining show, Rumble in River City, a pro wrestling spectacular.

"The ability to deliver a first-time sporting event showcasing such skilled competitions like archery, dance and tennis is a strong draw for bringing together both youth and adult amateurs," said Ernest "The Cat" Miller, former WCW wrestling superstar and RCSF commissioner. "We are already expecting a large turnout and very competitive tournaments across the board."

Archery Tournament
The archery competition features several divisions and is being hosted by the Mohawk Archery Club at the Spring Creek Preserve in Mason City. Individuals will compete in one of the following divisions, with each one classified by gender: Cubs [12U]; Youth [ages 13 - 16]; and Bow Hunter [ages 17 - 54]. There are also unisex divisions that include Senior Bow Hunter [ages 55 & up] and Traditional, which carries no age limit. The archery competition is also sponsored by Athletes for College, an organization that helps student athletes play their sport of choice at the college level.

"We look at archery as a family-oriented sport, focusing on sportsmanship and developing skills with local tournaments," said Brent Hanson, RCSF archery director and president of Mohawk Archery Club. "We want to grow the sport in the Iowa area, and we believe that it being a part of the River City Sports Festival is a strong push toward accomplishing that mission."

Dance Competition
The dance competition features divisions for both solo performances and teams, with all dancing taking place at North Iowa Area Community College [NIACC]. The dance teams will compete May 9, in two divisions: high school and dance school, with each one dancing in the categories of pom, jazz, hip hop and specials. Soloists will be divided into at least two categories by age groups, and compete May 10. The dance competition is sponsored by Corcoran & Associates, an independent insurance agency with offices throughout Iowa.

Chae, former NFL Atlanta Falcons cheerleader and WCW Nitro Girl, will serve as a judge during the competitions. Competition winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals, and Grand Champions can take home a RCSF championship jacket and championship banner, as well as be spotlighted at the RCSF website.

"With cheerleading and dance being so popular, we are excited that the River City Sports Festival is including a dance competition," said Michelle Dunn Barlas, RCSF dance director and owner/head choreographer of Jump And Jam Cheerleading and Dance. "Dance is a performance art, and we will have some very athletic performers from all over the area during our event."

Tennis Tournament
The double-elimination tennis tournament will feature divisions for both adult men and women, as well as divisions for juniors between the ages of 12 and 17. Doubles play will also be showcased. All matches will be played at West Park and East Park in Mason City, and hosted by Mason City Parks and Recreation.

"Tennis is a growing sport in North Iowa, and we are excited to showcase our community to tennis players throughout the Midwest," said Alex Kuhn, RCSF tennis director. "Players of all skill sets and all ages are invited to register. The athletes in the [adult] divisions will be playing for a free weekend at two of North Iowa's most unique locations. A weekend at the All Iowa Lawn Tennis Club, the Midwest's only bent grass tennis club, and a free night at The Historic Park Inn, the world's only remaining Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel."

The River City Sports Festival, sponsored by Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers, is set for May 9 - 11, 2014, for both individual and team competitors. Most competitions will be held at NIACC, while Mason City Parks and Recreation will host the softball and tennis tournaments, and the Mohawk Archery Club will host the archery contests.

The bell rings for Rumble in River City, the headlining pro wrestling show, on Saturday night, May 10, when former NWA, WWE, WCW and current TNA/Impact superstars will grapple at NIACC. Already announced on the card are female pro wrestling icon Gorgeous George; Disco Inferno; Chae; TNA Superstar Garett Bischoff, the son of pro wrestling icon Eric Bischoff; and Dan "The Beast" Severn, the only UFC Triple Crown Champion and former NWA Superstar. Severn will also host a mixed-martial arts clinic May 9, delivering a karate demonstration.
