Apple has launched a brand new Podcasts Application for the users of its iOS 5.1. The application, which was earlier available on iTune Apps store, will now be available as a standalone product. The application, which is 8.8 MB can now be downloaded for free from Apple's App store to play in your iPhone or iPad.

Although Apple had initially mulled over the idea of launching the podcasts application in the later part of the year along with the release of iOS 6 operating system, it could not make its users wait for too long and released the product much ahead of its scheduled time, said a report.

The application consists of a series of internet content in the format of an audio-video file which the users can subscribe and listen to . Similar to the medium of radio, Podcasts allows its users to brush up their knowledge and gain information on the subjects to which they have subscribed to or select a set of categories from the catalog to which they want to listen.

History of the product reveals that it was in use back in the year 2004, and received a wide response from the users after it became a mainstream application in Apple's ITUNE version 4.9 in the year 2005.

From the user's perspective, the application contains an easy to use navigational interface with modern and sharp graphics that gives it an extraordinary look. Apart from this, the application is loaded with tons of features like: customizable playlists, explore podcasts in over 40 different languages, Top Stations feature to discover new series of podcasts on an array of topics, subscribe to receive new episodes for free, download audio-video files to listen while offline, simple playback controls, Sleep Timer, social sharing of episodes using email, message or Twitter, episode synchronization from iTunes, etc.

Reports say that with the development of this application, Apple has overcome all the shortcomings that prevailed in its other inventions.
