Alpha Micro Enhances USB Portfolio With Addition Of FTDI’s Latest Serial To USB Modules

Basingstoke, UK (I-Newswire) December 3, 2010 - Alpha Micro Components (www.alphamicro.net), the independent franchised distributor of electronic components, today announced that it has added the DB9-USB-RS232 module from Future Technology Devices International (FTDI) to its portfolio of Serial to USB solutions. It is the ideal solution for upgrading and migrating to USB 2.0 for a range of legacy applications which feature RS232 interfaces including audio products, point of sale terminals, vehicle diagnostics and security and fire panels.

The DB9-USB-RS232 modules are designed to replace an existing DB9 and have the pin-for-pin factor for male or female RS232 connectors. It is engineered as a drop-in solution, therefore removing any need for a processor overhead or embedded USB stack. This will provide a full USB slave interface which requires no external circuitry. FTDI’s innovative, robust and reliable design makes it a simple, fast and cost-effective solution for migrating legacy equipment.

This module uses a standard USB-MINI-B connector for connection to an upstream host or hub port. As with all FTDI modules, the DB9-USB-RS232 is available using the royalty free USB driver which suits the application best including Microsoft Windows Server 2008, 2003, Vista, XP 2000, Linux and Mac OS X.
