Algebra App #1 in Kids 9 -11 IOS Apps

Hands-On Equations 1 - The Fun Way to Learn Algebra app for the iPhone and iPad - reached the #1 spot in the Kids 9 -11 category in several countries, including the United States, Singapore, Canada, Germany and India.

Hands-On Equations 1 - The Fun Way to Learn Algebra app for the iPhone and iPad, normally $4.95, went free for two days. The price reduction was announced on several major mobile sites, resulting in more than 60,000 downloads worldwide.

As a result, Hands-On Equations 1 reached the #1 spot in the Kids 9 -11 category in several countries, including the United States, Singapore, Canada, Germany and India. In addition, in the same category, it reached the #2 spot in Israel, #2 in South Korea, #3 in Hong Kong and #9 in China.

The Hands-On Equations apps are based on the original program which uses physical game pieces and for which Dr. Henry Borenson, the inventor, received a patent. The idea behind both the physical and mobile versions is to demystify the learning of algebra by making the concepts visual and kinesthetic.

Blue pawns are used to represent the unknown x. Numbered cubes are used to represent the constants. The student "sets up" the equation on an image of a balance scale and then uses physical motions to solve equations such as 4x + 3 = 3x + 9 and 2(2x + 1) = x + 14..

The physical version of the program has been used by more than a million students in the United States. In order to optimally implement the program, more than 50,000 teachers have attended the Making Algebra Child's Play workshop offered by the company.

Hands-On Equations 1 is one of three paid IOS versions of the app, It is followed by Hands-On Equations 2 and 3. There is also a free lite version called The Fun Way to Learn Algebra. The apps are also available for the Android and Kindle devices. .

As expected many young students have experienced success with the app. Not so expected were the many reviews by adults who never experienced success with algebra and were now finally finding success, including this recent review by Ajumma Fan, a user of the app in her 60's:

"I wasn't asked to review, but I just did Lesson 1 and feel that I simply must review this fine app. I'm in my 60's and have cognitive impairments from a head injury. This app gives me a fun way to exercise my neurons and also to learn something they didn't much teach girls 50 yrs ago. We were usually in sewing or cooking classes when the boys were in Algebra or Wood Shop. I love this app. Thank you very much."

The success of the Hands-On Equations program, both the physical and the app version, proves that all students can be highly successful with basic algebraic concepts using this innovative visual and kinesthetic approach.

Since students also experience great difficulty with fractions, the company has been working on a fractions workshop for teachers. Free webinars on Hands-On Equations and on Developing Fractions Sense are available online at www.borenson.com.
