Tallahassee, FL (I-Newswire) February 18, 2011 - An Alfred Mitchell (American, 1888 - 1972) San Diego landscape oil painting goes under the auction hammer at Manor Auctions on February 19th. Manor will sell the Alfred Mitchell oil painting in its Fine Art Catalog Auction alongside 100 other works.

Born in Pennsylvania, Mitchell headed West to give it a go as a prospector in the California Gold Rush. Once Mitchell decided he could not make it as a prospector, he settled in the San Diego area, where he immediatly took to art and painting. Alfred Mitchell was a prominent and very influentual Southern California Imppressionist. Mitchell is well known for his landscape paintings of the San Diego area. Today, his works are highly sought after by collectors around the world.

Mitchells paintings provide great insight and reference to the development of the San Diego area.

During his lifetime, Mitchell was very active in the local art community, founding and serving on many art foundations and organizations in the area.
