Asia-Pacific BOATING India brings back the high octane action packed adventure with Regatta Season 2

After much appreciation last year, Asia-Pacific BOATING India Ed. promises to provide another exhilarating experience to its guest with a fun-filled afternoon Regatta followed by a cocktail dinner at the Navy Club, Mumbai this November.

Asia Pacific Boating India celebrated its official launch in India at the Sailing Club, Navy Nagar in Mumbai in November 2009. The celebrations kicked off with a private and exclusive regatta that had global sailing champions like Farokh Tarapore, Homi Motivala, Aashim and Nitin Mongia, Commander R Mahesh and Gautama Dutta manning six J 24s as they competed against each other for the Asia Pacific Boating - India Champion trophy. Foong Seong Khong, Business Development Director, SPH Magazines graced the occasion and honoured the winners of the Regatta.

The six yachts - sailing for teams Black Dog, Jaguar, Land Rover, Asia Pacific Boating, Finland Tourism and Roca sailed three races, and were filled with enthusiastic participants including Mrs. Bindu Kapoor (wife of Rana Kapoor, MD,Yes Bank), and their two children, Rolex India Managing Director Yogesh Shah and family, among others.

The white optimist sails of the children's race which took place simultaneously further along the bay, also added to the exhilaration of the afternoon's proceedings, as arriving guests enjoyed an afternoon of champagne and hors d'oeuvres with a gorgeous view of the sea.

At night the venue transformed into a perfect ambience, with twinkling lights on the horizon and the moored yachts on the bay. The red Jaguar and silver Land Rover poised at the very edge of the bay, added a touch of glamour and excitement.

Narendra Kumar Ahmed launched his first ever Cruize Collection, designed especially to celebrate this occasion. Models sashayed down the 126 foot ramp on the pier (one of India's longest catwalks created especially for the event), that extended into the sea.

The winners of the Asia Pacific Boating - India Awards, for the afternoon's sailing were also announced. Top honours went to Upamanyu Dutta in the children's category, while the J 24 sailing category was won by team Roca, captained by Nitin Mongia. The winners were gifted sporty watches, given especially to the event by Timex.

The event was well attended by top members of the boating fraternity, including veteran sailors like Farokh Tarapore, Captain Homi Motivala and Huzan Frazer Motivala, Nitin and Dipti Mongia of Casa Commodore, Bharati and Aashim Mongia of West Coast Marine Yacht Services, Gautama and Anju Dutta of Marine Solutions, Jayendra Kachalia of Navnit Marine, Riyhad Kundanmal of Ocean Crest Marine and his wife Alisha Chauhan.


The evening witnessed a huge turnout with attendees like Ravi Dubey and Rohit Suri of Tata Motors, Biren Vaidya, Managing Director of Rose and his wife Sheetal, Tarun Sharma Country Head - India for Jaeger LeCoultre, Nisha Jhaveri of Myrah Spa, Nalin Jhaveri of Lustrous Gems, Karan Singh from the Oberoi Group, Mihir Nerurkar of Samira Habitats, Kamal Bharucha of Mont Blanc, Colvyn Harris, CEO of JWT, Puneet Matta Head of Wealth Management for Credit Suisse, Chander Uday Singh, Anthony Rodrigues of Baccarose, Adel El Masry Director General for the Egyptian Consulate Tourism Office in India, and Salvatore Ianniello, Indian Representative for the Italian State Tourist Board.

With such huge support and encouragement from the luxury, travel and hospitality industries too, the Regatta has become an annual signature event of Asia-Pacific BOATING India.

As we get ready for the Jaguar-Landrover Asia-Pacific BOATING Regatta 2010, the venue remains the same but the excitement doubles. With popular demand the number of sails has increased from 6 to 8 in a group. In the perfect ambience the designers who will showcase their collections are among the best in the country, and will showcase the collection that will literally create "waves".
