"Hammerstein & Sondheim" will feature a talented cast of music and theatre students in songs and ensembles by two giants of American musical theatre. Oscar Hammerstein II, in a career spanning four decades, was the librettist and lyricist for some of the most innovative and successful musicals of the 20th century, including Show Boat, written with composer Jerome Kern, and the series of musical plays in which he collaborated with composer Richard Rodgers, such as Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific and The King and I. He also taught and mentored an aspiring composer/lyricist named Stephen Sondheim who would go on to set a new standard of creativity on Broadway with shows such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George.
